Google Adsense

What is Adsense and how does it work?
Adsense is a Google based service that helps companies that want to advertise find potential sites, and that's were you come in.
From the tags at the bottom of your post to your url (http://livingoffblogging.blogspot.com/) there are keywords that show up.
These keywords are read by Google Adsense and pick ads that are related to your site.
Sign up at adsense and get a feel of what they have to offer
Google Adsense.
There is a lot to Adsense on this post I'm just going to start with Adsense for content.
Adsense for content can be text or image ads that pay by either page impressions or clicks.
Page impressions are how many people have come to your site, and clicks are people that click on the ads.
How do you place these ads on your site?
When you have signed up with Adsense go to Adsense set up at the top then click on Get Ads.

Now you should see Highlighted in blue Adsense for content, click on it.
There are two options here, ad unit, and link unit.
For now we will stick with the ad unit, so make sure it's chosen and hit continue below.
Next is how your ad will look and the size. For this your just going to have to experiment around to see what you like and fits the format of your site.
After you try something go down and click continue.
Next is to name your ad this one on top I named makingaliveingofbloggingtop.
Try to name it similar to your site and where on the site so you can go to AdSense and see how its doing later.
Find add new channel and click to do this.
Hit continue.
On the next page go to submit and get code.
Now you have a HTML code for your ad, so in the gray box highlight the code right click and copy.
Go to your site and hit customize on the top blogger bar.
Click on add a gadget and then find HTML/java script.
A box should show up, right click in content and paste, then save.
Now in edit layout it should say HTML/java script at the top of your side bar, figure out where you want to place your ad and you can drag it there.

You have your first ad so now you can start putting ads on all your sites, but make sure that you read through the Terms and conditions at the bottom of Adsense so you don't ruin your relationship with Google.
Adsense for content has a limit of three ads per a site.
Your first cheek will come when you reach $100 so
Good luck and happy blogging!

Step One: Setting Up A Blog

The first thing you need to do if you plan on making a living off blogging is to start your first blog. Now, there is a large number of places that offer free blog hosting, but the easiest one to work with is Blogger. It is a free sign-up and you can have as many blogs as you like through Blogger which is now owned by Google.

After you have signed up you need to decide on your URL which is basically the address of your blog. For example this site's URL is http://livingoffblogging.blogspot.com another example would be http://worldsfunniestvideo.blogspot.com and so on. You should try and make your URL related to the topics you plan on discussing in your blog, this will help you to get more search engine traffic. Remember though, not all URLs are even available so you might have to get a little creative when it comes to your URL.

So now that you have picked a URL you need a Title for your blog, it doesn't have to be exactly like your URL, but again it helps in the search engines if your Title and URL are at least close to matching. Blogger then has you pick a template for your blog. Don't sweat this too much as you can always change it later. My personal favorite is Minima Black or Stretch, but it is entirely up to you.

Just like that you have created your first blog, congratulations! Now it is time to start posting. I like to start out with a welcome post of sorts, tell your reader what you plan on discussing in your blog or just the purpose of your blog.

The very next thing you should do is begin tracking your blog with Google Analytics. This free service offered by Google tracks all the visitors to your site. To learn how to install Google Analytics in your site just click here! Let me know if you have any questions or problems so far...
